Penile fracture: emergency tunical repair

6 steps, each one the authored title and caption from the interactive animation, with the frame captured from that step. Read it before the case, or print it and work through the steps in order.

Teaching only, not for diagnosis or treatment decisions. The text on this sheet is the animation's own step copy, reproduced verbatim.

    The buckling moment

Penile fracture: emergency tunical repair. Step 1: The buckling moment. Captured frame from the interactive animation.
    • An erect penis buckles against the perineum or pubic arch: a crack, sharp pain, rapid detumescence and a swelling haematoma.
    • The tunica tears on the side under tension, opposite the direction of the bend.
  2. 02

    Assessment + selective imaging

Penile fracture: emergency tunical repair. Step 2: Assessment + selective imaging. Captured frame from the interactive animation.
    • The history usually makes the diagnosis and a convincing fracture proceeds to urgent repair, ideally within 24 hours.
    • Blood at the meatus, haematuria or difficulty voiding raises suspicion of urethral injury and prompts retrograde urethrography or flexible cystoscopy.
  3. 03

    Subcoronal degloving

Penile fracture: emergency tunical repair. Step 3: Subcoronal degloving. Captured frame from the interactive animation.
    • A circumferential subcoronal incision and the shaft skin is degloved to the root, exposing the haematoma that has tracked along the corporal bodies.
  4. 04

    Haematoma evacuation

Penile fracture: emergency tunical repair. Step 4: Haematoma evacuation. Captured frame from the interactive animation.
    • Clot is evacuated and the corpora inspected circumferentially.
    • This model shows a transverse tear on the ventrolateral aspect of the right corpus; a second tear must be excluded before repair.
  5. 05

    Tunica repair + urethral inspection

Penile fracture: emergency tunical repair. Step 5: Tunica repair + urethral inspection. Captured frame from the interactive animation.
    • The viable tunical margins are preserved and the defect closed directly with absorbable sutures; only clearly devitalised tissue is trimmed.
    • Urethral signs prompt retrograde urethrography or flexible cystoscopy, followed by a defined catheter or repair plan.
  6. 06

    Closure + counselling

Penile fracture: emergency tunical repair. Step 6: Closure + counselling. Captured frame from the interactive animation.
    • The degloved skin is replaced and a light dressing applied.
    • Counsel honestly about later curvature and the recovery of erectile function: most recover, a small proportion do not.

Derived from PenileFractureScene.tsx at build time: every step title and caption above is the authored ProcedureDef text, reproduced verbatim, and this page shares its readable-points renderer with the animation itself. 6 of 6 steps have a captured frame.

Text fingerprint 7eba06cbfd6b5d79. A caption edit without a re-capture fails the production check, so the sheet and the animation cannot drift apart silently.
