Female urethral stricture reconstruction

7 steps, each one the authored title and caption from the interactive animation, with the frame captured from that step. Read it before the case, or print it and work through the steps in order.

Teaching only, not for diagnosis or treatment decisions. The text on this sheet is the animation's own step copy, reproduced verbatim.

    Calibrate and confirm the length

Female urethral stricture reconstruction. Step 1: Calibrate and confirm the length. Captured frame from the interactive animation.
    • Lithotomy, a ring retractor on the labia.
    • A sound passed at the meatus stops at the narrow segment.
    • A fine scope is taken to its distal face and through it to healthy urethra, so its length and its place are known before any incision.
  2. 02

    Suprameatal incision

Female urethral stricture reconstruction. Step 2: Suprameatal incision. Captured frame from the interactive animation.
    • A semilunar incision above the meatus, on the vestibule between the meatus and the clitoris, from three o'clock over twelve to nine.
    • The edges are drawn apart.
  3. 03

    Open the dorsal plane

Female urethral stricture reconstruction. Step 3: Open the dorsal plane. Captured frame from the interactive animation.
    • The plane between the roof of the urethra and the clitoral bodies and their nerves is opened from the meatus back, between ten and two o'clock.
    • It is carried beyond the narrow segment and no further: the sides of the urethra and the sphincter are left alone.
  4. 04

    Open the roof at twelve

Female urethral stricture reconstruction. Step 4: Open the roof at twelve. Captured frame from the interactive animation.
    • The urethra is incised on its roof at twelve o'clock, from the meatus back through the narrow segment and on into healthy urethra.
    • A sound then passes the whole length; the gap in the roof is the size of the graft.
  5. 05

    Lay and sew the graft

Female urethral stricture reconstruction. Step 5: Lay and sew the graft. Captured frame from the interactive animation.
    • A buccal mucosal graft, taken from the cheek as for a male urethroplasty and thinned, is laid into the opened roof with its mucosa to the lumen, apex first.
    • A catheter is passed and the graft is sewn to each edge of the opened urethra with interrupted stitches.
  6. 06

    Quilt the graft

Female urethral stricture reconstruction. Step 6: Quilt the graft. Captured frame from the interactive animation.
    • Quilting stitches fix the graft to the tissue under the clitoris, so it lies flat on a vascular bed with nothing collecting beneath it.
    • The roof of the narrowed segment is now the graft.
  7. 07

    Close, drain, reassess

Female urethral stricture reconstruction. Step 7: Close, drain, reassess. Captured frame from the interactive animation.
    • The suprameatal incision is closed over the repair and the catheter left on drainage.
    • Once it is out, the flow, the residual and continence are checked, and again after healing.

Derived from female/FemaleUrethroplastyScene.tsx at build time: every step title and caption above is the authored ProcedureDef text, reproduced verbatim, and this page shares its readable-points renderer with the animation itself. 7 of 7 steps have a captured frame.

Text fingerprint de52295c0b274555. A caption edit without a re-capture fails the production check, so the sheet and the animation cannot drift apart silently.
