Revision sheet
MAGPI hypospadias repair
8 steps, each one the authored title and caption from the interactive animation, with the frame captured from that step. Read it before the case, or print it and work through the steps in order.
Teaching only, not for diagnosis or treatment decisions. The text on this sheet is the animation's own step copy, reproduced verbatim.

- 01
Assess, stay and infiltrate
- The meatus lies at the corona, with a bridge of glans tissue between its dorsal lip and a shallow glanular groove.
- A stay stitch through the mid glans puts the penis on stretch.
- The corona and the dorsal web of glans tissue are infiltrated with local anaesthetic and adrenaline to help haemostasis, and a fine stitch is placed ventrolaterally in each glans wing.
- 02
Ventral skin incision
- Under loupes, a transverse incision in the ventral penile skin a short way below the coronal sulcus.
- It is taken down beneath the dartos fascia toward the penoscrotal junction.
- The urethral wall lies directly under this thin skin and is not to be injured.
- 03
Artificial erection
- A tourniquet constricts the base of the penis and saline is injected through a butterfly needle into one corpus cavernosum.
- The shaft fills straight: chordee is excluded, and the tourniquet is removed.
- 04
Incise the bridge vertically
- A vertical incision from the dorsal edge of the meatus, through the bridge of glans tissue, to the distal end of the glanular groove.
- The cut springs open into a V that widens the meatus.
- 05
Close it transversely
- The opened V is sutured to the glanular groove with interrupted stitches: a vertical cut closed transversely, on the Heineke-Mikulicz principle.
- The bridge flattens and the dorsal lip of the meatus advances as far distally as it will go.
- 06
Lift the ventral edge
- A skin hook lifts the proximal edge of the meatus toward the tip of the glans.
- As it rises it draws the two glans wings toward each other beneath the meatus.
- 07
Glans wings in three layers
- The wings are brought together beneath the advanced meatus in three layers: interrupted stitches in the deep glans tissue, buried subcutaneous stitches to minimise tension, then vertical mattress stitches closing the two midline edges.
- The new meatus sits at the tip of the glans.
- 08
Excise the prepuce and close
- The excess preputial skin is excised and bleeding points are sealed with diathermy.
- The penile skin is closed with interrupted stitches and an adhesive dressing is applied.
- No catheter is left here; a fine infant feeding tube may be left for bladder drainage.
- The nappies must not cover the meatus.
Derived from paediatric/MagpiScene.tsx at build time: every step title and caption above is the authored
ProcedureDef text, reproduced verbatim, and this page shares its readable-points renderer with the animation
itself. 8 of 8 steps have a captured frame.
Text fingerprint 7fb6438eac6a2ab0. A caption edit without a re-capture fails the production
check, so the sheet and the animation cannot drift apart silently.
